Pixel Experimentation

I was looking for a method to pixelate images in Photoshop and found this very old thread on Reddit on pixelating and wanted to try it out on an image from Dalle.

I started with this prompt to get a robot in a desert scene:

Create a pixel art-style scene of a large, retro-futuristic robot standing in a barren desert landscape. The robot has a bulky, armored build, resembling a mechanized exosuit with a sturdy, industrial design. The color palette is primarily muted blues and grays with glowing orange accents on the chest and visor. The head features two short antennae, and the robot stands tall and imposing against a vibrant desert background. In the distance, the sky transitions into a dusk setting, featuring a giant red-orange sun low on the horizon, casting long shadows across the scene. The landscape includes rocky formations, sparse vegetation, and cacti, all rendered in a classic, vibrant pixel art style. The atmosphere should evoke a sense of isolation, adventure, and retro sci-fi, capturing the essence of a futuristic wanderer in a desolate world.

I like the chunkier “4 bit” and “1 bit” the best. I made an action set in Photoshop that you can use if you want to try this out for your self.

The lower resolution images kind of reminded me of a scene from an old game, so I started playing with crt scan lines.
